FALUN, SWEDEN.

There are three main reasons why I sell PWS to Sdiptech: It secures the company's growth globally, it gives the proper return on my investments, and it places PWS in a group focusing on the infrastructure of the future, which is the right type of owner company for my "baby."

That is how Lars Wiklund, PWS CEO and founder, explains the background for selling his market-leading company to Sdiptech at the end of 2018.

In Brisbane and Borås. In Singapore and Stockholm. In Mexico City and Malmö. In Seoul and Sundsvall.
Pure Water Scandinavia, founded at the Dalregementet in autumn 2001, manufactures advanced pure water facilities for hospitals and laboratories worldwide. The great seller CUBO (WPT in the partner Getinge catalog) has Lars Wiklund himself invented.

The CUBO makes plain water ultra pure. It is large as a refrigerator and installs in one day. The water is used for washing and cleaning operating equipment and examination instruments, and in power plants here in Sweden. With our current muscles, we have largely taken the market shares we can get in Europe, South America, and Asia. For the next step, we need a strong owner who thinks as a partner, likes long-term growth, and shares our focus. That owner is Sdiptech, says Lars Wiklund.

How has the growth journey been like for PWS?
Organically since the start in 2001. Sales have risen in stages, but the average is a growth of 10 percent per year, with the right margins. PWS's final full year before Sdiptech ended with a turnover of SEK 33 million. We have gone from one employee, I, to 12 people.
Where can we find PWS today, spring 2019?
Head office and production facility in Falun. Office and technician in Stockholm and Borås. Through Getinge we have trained service technicians in Australia, South Korea, and Singapore.
Which markets are PWS on?
Hospital and life science for our compact CUBO clean water system. It exists worldwide, except in the United States. We also make the associated threading of pure water pipes.
At CHP plants in Sweden and the Nordic countries for our major pure water treatment facilities.
Three famous customers/projects?
All pure water at New Karolinska and Karolinska Institutet. In Uppsala we did, among other things, Biomedical Center, Science Park, and the National Food Administration.
Why did you start PWS?
I had worked in the industry for 20 years and saw a specific rigidity among the larger players. I had been a sales manager and CEO and flown around the world and I saw an opportunity to build a flexible company based in Sweden that could grow at the right pace.

How did you feel about selling the company?
Honestly, I had thought about it for a while and actually started a sales process already four or five years before it became a reality. However, it got complicated in every possible way, and I dropped it to focus on marketing and product development again, something I enjoy doing. Then the company came to a point where the issue became critical. My business broker David Hedlund and Sdiptech found each other, and after that, it went quickly. It was meant to happen, as one usually says.
The most important lesson during growth?
Know-how is not the most important. It is know-who.
Know-how is purely self-evident in all industries; otherwise, you will not get out of the starting blocks.
Know-who is everything. If you cannot create the right contacts, you will not reach the market. You will not find the right partners for design, marketing, recruitment, or export efforts. It applies globally and locally. In just this region, I have different partners who have programmed our customized touch screen, enabled press coverage for PWS, and who developed the metal skeleton for the CUBO, to name just a few things.
The company's next phase?
We cannot go into any details, but our full focus is on continued growth. There is an export market with enormous potential that we do not yet have, and this is why PWS needs Sdiptech's overall resources and expertise.
Your new role?
I am less involved in day-to-day operations and production and can focus on strategic sales and growth, which is exactly what I want. Both the sales process and my new time in the company have exceeded my expectations, which does not happen often.
